10 websites to know everything about the EU
In no particular order, here are the ten best websites for you to follow to become an expert in EU policymaking.
Where does the best EU lobbyist get their insights and information? They have a lot of networking and good relations, for sure, but also the right tools.
Here is a list of the website I advise you to bookmark and visit regularly to become familiar with the EU policy world in no time. Let’s get to it.
1. Politico
Politico Europe (not to mistake with its US-based mother company) is a newspaper specializing in European politics and the drama around it. I recommend you subscribe to its newsletter, mainly the Brussels’ Playbook, a daily roundup of the most important news in EU affairs.
Politico sometimes flirts with entertainment rather than information, but with a bit of self-judgment and the other sites on this list, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
2. Euractiv
Euractiv is another EU-centered newspaper. Contrary to Politico, which makes into sensationalism, Euractiv is more factual and reports on events as they unfold. It is overall a great source for keeping up with the news, even if it is less “sexy” than its counterpart.
I recommend you subscribe to the various newsletters of Euractiv in the fields that interest you. They also propose editions in national languages.
3. EuropaNova
EuropaNova is another great source of information and ideas on European policies. I especially recommend subscribing to its weekly newsletter. It is a long format but a very informative one. Although EuropaNova publishes only in French, I still encourage non-french speakers to check it out.
4. Contexte
Contexte is a French newspaper with excellent reach into circles of powers in France and the EU. Although the articles and newspapers are in French, they are a gold mine of information on the text discussed at the Parliament, the Commission, nominations of key people, in-depth analysis, etc.
Contexte sometimes leaks draft proposals or reports from lawmakers, making its rather high subscription fee a worthwhile investment for lobbyists.
5. EPC
The European Policy Center is an independent think tank with a deep reach with policymakers. It organises regularly a lot of interesting events with experts, business representatives, and European lawmakers. As such, it is an important center for discussion, idea generation, and debates on the policies of the EU.
